Whether you are a local and already have your favorite local food spots in Maui or a visitor who’s craving their first plate lunch ever, you will enjoy reading about the best places to go for local food on the island.
Here is my list when it comes to grabbing a bite to eat in Maui

Foodland
Foodland is perfect for travelers that are wanting a quick bite but not wanting to order fast food. Foodland is technically considered a grocery store but has a wide variety of delicacies for one to choose from. Locals consider the spot to one of the best places to go for poke.
Lahaina Grill
Lahaina Grill is a must if you find yourself on the west side of the island. For 29 years, the Honolulu Magazine Readers Poll voted Lahaina Grills as the best restaurant in West Maui. The grill is known for its mouth-watering New American cuisine, appetizing island-grown dishes, and tasty international menu.

Mama's Fish House
Mama's Fish House is known for having the best seafood on Maui. The restaurant is located along the North Shore of Maui and sits directly in front the beautiful Kuau Cove. One of the best parts is that the menu is printed fresh everyday. They not only list which fish they are using for each dish but where on the island it was caught and the name of the fisherman. I have never seen anything like this anywhere else in my life.

Kalei’s Lunch Box
Kalei’s Lunch Box is known as "Da Big Kahuna of Island Grinds" and for good reason. It is one of Maui’s best flavor centers for local food fare. Due to its popularity, Kalei’s Lunch Box has three locations: a food truck in Kahului, a restaurant at Pukalani, and a restaurant in Maui Lani.

Southshore Grindz
Southshore Grindz is located in the heart of Kihei and is just across the road from Kamaole Beach. One quality that I loved about this eatery is that their goal is to support local Maui vendors and suppliers as much as possible through their menu offerings. The menu at Southshore Grindz has a variety of appetizers, salads, paninis and burgers, local plates, and noodles. They also have a Keiki (kids) menu and an assortment of cakes and desserts.

Tobi's Shave Ice
Tobi’s Shave Ice is one of the best places to get shaved ice on the island. However, don't let the name fool you. This place goes way beyond serving shaved ice and has one of the best Poke Bowls in Maui.
