Dreaming of taking that Hawaii vacation? With a unique culture, flawless beaches, and a diverse cuisine, the Aloha State is easily one of the most beautiful places within the United States. While I am bias on a few islands, I do believe each has its owns charm and personality. I believe planning the perfect Hawaiian getaway is all about finding the right fit for your travel style.
Ready to figure out which Hawaiian Island you should travel to?

Big Island
[The Island of Hawaii]
Main Highlights
The towns worth exploring on the island are Kona, Waikoloa Village, and Hilo. However, there is a reason why the term "big" is in its name. Most of the island is rural and it will take hours to get from one side of the island to the other. The Big Island is well known for being the only Hawaiian Island to offer volcanoes, some still being active.
Top Things to Do
There are great opportunities to explore the history and culture of the island as well as connecting with nature. Thanks to its size, the Big Island is one of the most diverse of all the Hawaiian Islands. Visitors can hike through mountains, wander through lava fields, go horseback riding in the Waipio Valley, explore lush jungles, dive with manta rays at night, or even bird watch from an active volcano. Here are my 10 things to do on The Big Island.
Travel Type: The Big Island is perfect for travelers who want to experience activities you wouldn't be able to see or do any of the other islands.
Kauai
[The Garden Isle]
Main Highlights
I may be bias but Kauai is personally my favorite of all the Hawaiian Islands and is the perfect place to go off grid. The greenest of all the islands of Hawaii, you will find truly immersed in the spirit of Hawaii.
Top Things to Do
Kauai is the island where you can truly savor the natural beauty of the Aloha State. Mark Twin refereed to the Waimea Canyon as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" and is just one of the many wonders of Kauai. Much of the island is connected by two lane road or is inaccessible by car so make sure to pack your hiking shoes. Here are my 10 things to do on Kauai.
Travel Type: Nature lovers and anyone looking for a digital detox.
Oahu
Main Highlights
Honolulu is currently the 11th biggest city in the United States. 80% of the Hawaiian population lives on the island and it is the island where tourists can spend a bulk of time. There are numerous museums, historical sites, hiking trails, as well as opportunities to connect with locals.
Top Things to Do
Exploring Pearl Harbor, hiking Koko Head, surfing North Shore, or soaking in the sun on Waikiki Beach are some of the few activities that will keep you busy on the island. Here are my 10 things to do on Oahu.
Travel Type: If you’re into exploring while having a mix of city life with fine dining and accommodations, Oahu is for you.
Maui
[The Valley Isle]
Main Highlights
Maui is home to some of the best, romantic resorts of all the Hawaiian islands. As well as resorts, the island homes some of the most beautiful red and black sand beaches. While there is not an array of shopping, it is a good balance between Oahu and Kauai.
Top Things to Do
The Road to Hana is one of the most iconic activities of Maui. The road will take you to some of the most beautiful spots on the island. One must see is Haleakala National Park. Maui homes great areas for outdoor activities as well such as golfing, snorkeling, and windsurfing. Here are my 10 things to do on Maui.
Travel Type: If you love the resort experience and are traveling with young children, this is my top option for you.
Other Islands
[Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, Kahoolawe]
Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe are other Hawaiian Islands but I would not recommend them for first-time visitors. The islands can be costly when it comes to rentals and accommodations as well as a flight to get onto these islands. That being said, they are stunning but I would personally save them for another trip other than your first.
