HOW TO MEET PEOPLE AS A SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

Traveling solo is one of the best ways learn about yourself. It is also a great way to meet like-minded travelers or immerse yourself into the culture and lifestyle of where you are traveling too. However, it can be a challenge to find and meet others while traveling solo.

Here are my tips on how to meet people as a solo traveler

STAY AT A HOSTEL

A hostel is a great way to meet fellow travelers. Hang out in the common areas or strike up a conversation with your suite mates. Many hostels will arrange weekly or a daily activities for guests to join.

CONTACT FRIENDS IN YOUR DESTINATION

It can be extremely rewarding to hang out with old friends in new places. Having connections can be helpful and comforting while in a new place. Meeting for coffee or walking around downtown is a great way to catch up. They’ll have that special local perspective and may be able to show you some of their favorite places in town.

TAKE A TOUR

Sign up for a day trip in or around your destination spot. You’ll be able to meet people with the same interests and maybe join be able to join them later on in your trip. Most hostels offer free walking tours, so along with getting a bearing of your destination, you can strike up some conversation!

TAKE A CLASS

You can sign up for a class and meet people from all over. Check visitor centers — there may be brochures and flyers for language, cooking, sport classes, and more. One of the most unique classes you could take is a cooking class. You will be able to pick up recipes and/or special techniques and bring them home to share with others.

BUMBLE BFF/DATING APPS

There are so many great apps out there that can connect fellow travelers. Bumble BFF works similar as to a dating app but lets you swipe right or left on people looking for friendship instead of dating. You can start to chat, plan to meet up and voila! You’re on an adventure with a new friend, possibly one you’ll have made for life.
